The Secret Things
As a kid, I loved secret things. Playing hide-and-go-seek, finding secret hideouts, and especially playing the game Battleship. (I also loved my Barbies and changing their clothes over and over again, but that’s a story for a different day.)
There was something about hiding all the little ships in my Battleship box that was exciting to me. I was hopeful that I’d be so tricky with the placement of my fleet of warships that my opponent would never find them!
It was the aspect of secrecy involved with this game that I found thrilling.
Deuteronomy 29:29 says, “The secret things belong to the Lord our God, but the things revealed belong to us and to our children forever, that we may follow all the words of this law.”
While I can keep a secret, I’m not thrilled when God does.
I like to know His plans in advance so that I can proceed accordingly.
But because God is God, He can hold His secrets away from us, revealing only what is necessary for us to know when we need to know it. And what He does reveal to us is enough.
He is not silent, but we must do all we can to pay close attention to Him.
His word is as relevant today as it was in Moses’ time, and it crosses all generations. It endures forever and is eternally applicable for us and our children.
As believers, we have spiritual eyes to see and understand His precepts, which are exposed to us through the Holy Scriptures. He has made known to us the path of life (Psalm 16:11), and it isn’t because we’re highly intelligent people; it’s because we seek the Lord.
God’s word is available to anyone willing to uncover the truths that it holds.
Finding Him isn’t a secret game of hide-and-go-seek or guessing where the ships are on a grid. It’s as easy as looking, seeking, and inquiring of Him.
When we approach this with a childlike faith, He reveals what we need to know (Matthew 11:25) when we need to know it.
Lord, as we seek You, may You give us spiritual eyes to find You and the spiritual truths You want to reveal to us. In Jesus’ name, amen.
I'm so glad you're here!
There is abundant, joy-filled life available to us through Jesus! The world is dark but there is always hope in the bright light of Him. Prayer is powerful.
Love,
Kimberly
