Pregnant woman claiming courage

Claiming Courage with God in the Midst of a Crisis

Can you imagine what it would be like to be young Mary, claiming courage with God in a terrifying situation? The story of a virgin girl chosen by God to carry the Savior of the world is one of epic proportions and a drama of the ages.

It was an impossible triumph only the Creator God could accomplish.

In Luke 1:31, the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary, you have found favor with God. You will be with child and give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus.”

This teenager was about to face an alarming predicament. She knew exactly how babies were conceived, and she wondered how this pregnancy would occur and what catastrophe would come because of it.

After being assured that the Holy Spirit would come upon her and the power of the Most High would overshadow her (Luke 1:35), she resolved to surrender herself to the Lord as his servant.

“May it be to me as you have said.” Luke 1:38

She knew that a Holy Spirit conception would sound crazy to her family, and she faced the prospect of being ostracized by them, as well as shaming her future husband, Joseph.

But Mary surrendered her fears by trusting that God was faithful, even in the middle of what could be a disastrous situation.

I wonder how many crises Mary had been through at her young age. And I question whether I would have responded in the same way.

Nothing about her predicament would be easy, but through her obedience and trust in God, the world’s only Hope would come.

Often, He doesn’t call us to tasks that are comfortable or convenient. He beckons us to walk with Him, claiming courage even in the midst of our crisis.

What is it that you are walking through today, friend? Our upheavals come through various and often unexpected trials, but only God can bring great triumphs through them.

Like Mary, will you take hold of His hand and trust Him?

Be encouraged.

The Creator of the universe, who formed a man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, who had the power to create a child in a virgin’s womb, can also carry us through life’s most difficult storms and breathe life into our desolate circumstances.
