Rare Radiance
There’s nothing like a good moisturizer in our regime to give our skin a radiant glow. When I’m especially tired, and just cream doesn’t cut it, I break out my trusted self-tanner and it’s the pick-me-up I need to look refreshed even when I’m not.
But there’s more to a glowing, rare radiance than what’s in our bathroom drawer.
When Moses came down from Mount Sinai with the two tablets of the Testimony in his hands, he was not aware that his face was radiant because he had spoken with the Lord. (Exodus 34:29)
What a revelation.
Moses’ time with God was transforming for him. And the crazy part is that Moses was unaware of what his time alone with the Lord did to his face. He was radiant because God is radiant.
The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of His being (Hebrews 1:3). It would only make sense that spending time with Jesus in prayer and meditating on His word will affect how people see us. Being in the presence of the majesty and splendor of our King changes who we are.
It’s not just a physical transformation of course. And it’s not something you can bottle, market, and make millions on as a cutting-edge beauty tool! No, this transforming power is far more than skin deep. God’s supernatural working through His Spirit alters our body, spirit, and soul giving us a rare radiance that can’t be bought or found in a jar.
Moses’ time on Mount Sinai was monumental. This is when God gave him the Ten Commandments, so it’s no wonder he was shiny. But Moses was also just a man, just a regular person like you and me that God chose to give His law on stone tablets (and ultimately deliver His people). The time spent together was what God used to mold this meek man into his mighty leader.
What’s transforming you? Is it the musings of social media or the all-consuming nature of news and world events? Or is it the power of time spent with the Lord changing you into someone that radiates His splendor and life-giving light to others?
I think we all could use a little more time with God. And…I’m certain a Jesus glow is far better than any self-tanner I could use.
